We’ve all been at that point in our lives where our shade of foundation just doesn’t want to play along and you can’t find that perfect match for you. Either the undertones are too yellow, pink or orange or the shade is too light and sometimes just a bit too dark. The Body Shop heard the prayers of woman around the world going through this terrible experience and decided to answer them by introducing us to their new Fresh nude foundation and shade adjusting drops. Enriched with English rose water and aloe vera, this hydrating formula leaves skin feeling beautifully fresh and comfortable all day. It also contains SPF 15 to help protect your skin. With a semi-matte finish, each of these 16 nature-inspired shades mimics the look of fresh-faced natural skin with a nude glow. The foundation offers a light to medium coverage and the shade adjusting drops can be used with most liquid foundations, no matter which brand.
Before applying your foundation make sure your face is fresh and clean (don’t forget to moisturise) and make sure that you have all your applying tools readily available. Here are a few things you need to know about the shade adjusting drops before we jump into the review.
"LIGHTENING DROPS: If you have light to medium skin you may find your foundation looks too dark or orange. A concentration of white and pink pigments in the Lightening Drops helps neutralise yellowness while lightening. Simply add a drop to lighten light to medium shades. For use with light to medium foundation shades, 1 drop = ½ a shade lighter. DARKENING DROPS: If you have dark to deep skin you may find your foundation looks too light or ashy. A concentration of black and red pigments in the Darkening Drops helps darken while keeping the natural depth. Simply add a drop to darken dark to deep foundation shades. For use with dark to deep foundation tones, 1 drop = ½ a shade darker."
I started out with about two pumps of the fresh nude foundation in colour Sahara light 030 (this was a sample colour – it’s always best to buy the colour closest to your skin tone). It’s obvious that the Sahara light is way too light for my skin tone so I went ahead and added two of the darkening drops. Use your foundation brush (I used MAC 187 – it’s a duo fibre face brush for light application and is mostly used for powders and pigments) to blend the mixture together and once you’re happy with the colour result you can start applying. Once I started applying the foundation I realised that it seemed to be a bit too chocolaty for my skin colour. I then went back to my formulae and added some lightening drops; once I added the lightening I also added another pump of the fresh nude foundation. I once again blended this together and applied it to my face.
Once the foundation was applied I used a second foundation brush which has a buffering effect (Burst in FD 05), this helped smooth out the foundation and blended it much better. When I completed the application of the foundation I found that my neck and face gave off a slightly pale shine. The only reason it gave this effect is because the 030 shade is way too light for my skin tone. Other than that I found that the foundation and the shade adjusting drops worked extremely well. This foundation is great for everyday but it isn't something I would recommend if you're looking for a foundation with a heavy coverage or a foundation to use for photoshoots. However if you're looking for an everyday foundation that's light and airy this is definitely the foundaton for you. I can’t wait to get the shade of foundation that is closest to my skin colour and try it with the shade adjusting drops to find that perfect match.
The Fresh nude foundation retails for R275.00 and the shade adjusting drops for R300.00, these products will be a great investment especially for those of us that love trying new products and different foundations. You wouid never have to worry about the foundation not being a perfect match.
I didn’t want to cover up the foundation at all so to finish off the look all I did was fill in my brows, add some mascara and polish off my lips to give it some colour.
