I’ve always been drawn to the colour yellow, the yellow in my pictures is a mustard yellow; it reminds me of happiness, hot-dogs and sunshine. During winter people tend to steer away from brighter colours, everyone gravitates towards blacks, greys, burgundy (which is called Merlot this season) and browns. I love bright colours and I’m a firm believer that you can wear them all year round.
This dress I’m wearing in the post is a velvet little number from MRP. My mom actually bought two of them and then she made the little bomber jacket from the second dress (clever hey). I decided to pair it with this cool sheer metallic polar neck I received from Revolt clothing. I love the contrast of the two colours.
I know that wearing this much colour isn’t for everyone so I’m going to give you a few tips on how to wear yellow/mustard in winter. You should definitely give it a try.
1. Go for gold
Wear a yellow/mustard dress and make it the centre of your entire look. Build everything else around this dress. Also remember you don’t always have to wear it with black. Yellow works really well with deeper blues and grey (which is my favourite)
If wearing an entire dress is too much for you and makes you feel like a banana, and then bring the colour in through accessories such as a handbag, scarf or pair of shoes. This will make your outfit pop and add that something extra that we all search for.
3. Statement Piece
If you’re not too crazy about having yellow as a primary part of your outfit then try wearing a coat in the colour. You’re always able to take it off if you ever need to.
4. Own it
Go for an entire yellow look made up of different shades and textures. This is more high fashion and not always for the everyday person but if you’re willing to try it just remember to own it ;)
