On Tuesday the 21st of April I was honoured to be a guest at the Surf Women in White event. The event itself was focused on women empowering other women and I was quite flattered to be a part of the empowered and diverse group that attended.
The event took place at the 12 Apostles Hotel in Camps Bay and each square metre of the venue dazzled. The ‘Women in White’ are women who are making waves, who influence and inspire others through the work they do. These women have empowered themselves and look to inspire other women to do the same. They do this through the voice they’ve created for themselves, whether it be social media platforms, television or radio these women are doing it all.
One of the wonderful souls I met there was Carol Tshabalala, the brand ambassador for Surf and a strong female force in the sporting world. I also sat right next to Jo-Ann Strauss who was our emcee for the evening. The former Miss South Africa dazzled us with her beautiful words and wonderful ways.
The food was amazing and I’ll never forget the mushroom risotto starter or the stuffed chicken main course. Our tables had the most beautiful settings with each seat gifted with a note book from Typo and a Swarovski crystal pen. After dinner we had a lovely time mingling, stuffing our faces with desserts and sipping on champagne.
As each lovely lady left we received a white dress designed by local designers, Black Coffee, along with a bag of Surf to keep it white and bright. The dress can by styled in 5 different ways and we were left with a challenge. The challenge is to wear the dress, photograph yourself, post it on social media and nominate the dress to a woman that inspires you or that you admire. In turn those women will wash the dress with Surf auto and do the same. This challenge will go through a number of five women in total to show our admiration and respect for each other.
Just when you thought that’s all, they introduced a little pledge wall on which the attendees could attach their own little motivations and aspirations for other women.
I truly believe in this cause and I love what awareness Surf is bringing to the achievements of some amazing women.
Keep a look out for my dress challenge post.
